Commanders Coach Takes Blame for Leaving Daniels in Game Prior to Significant Injury

Washington Commanders leader Coach Quinn has admitted he bears some the fault for a serious injury to the team’s signal-caller, Jayden Daniels.

Details of the Injury and Context

Daniels, who enjoyed among the best first-year performances in history last season, sustained a displaced elbow joint in the Sunday loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Although the quarterback passes with his dominant arm, the injury has placed his season uncertain. The condition was significant enough that the television broadcast avoided showing repeats and multiple athletes looked away as Daniels was treated by medical staff.

Criticism and Coach’s Response

Quinn came under criticism as numerous felt Daniels should not have been on the playing surface to begin with. The injury happened in the final period with the Commanders trailing 38-7, rendering a comeback improbable. It is common in these circumstances for clubs to insert their backup quarterback to prevent injuries to their starter.

“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it constantly, too, and, man, I erred,” he said of his decision to keep Jayden in the match. “That is 100% on me.”

Fallout and Team Prospects

Marcus Mariota will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback going forward, but he will lead a team in disarray. Following making the conference title game the prior year behind Daniels’s excellence, the franchise have faced difficulties this season. They also saw injuries to cornerback Lattimore (torn ACL) and pass-catcher McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on game day, and have a number of other key players on injured reserve. The Commanders are three wins and six losses on the season, and it would require a massive reversal for the club to reach the postseason.
